Recently we took a day trip to Plymouth, Massachusetts to see the sights and hear the sounds of America’s first Pilgrim settlement. We had a wonderful day, including a picnic in the Pilgrim Memorial State Park. Here are our top 5 things to do in Plymouth, Mass.
Plymouth Rock
Plymouth Rock is situated in the middle of Pilgrim Memorial State Park. While they are unsure of the exact rock the Pilgrim’s landed on, the current rock was chosen in 1830. Since that time, the “mother rock” has been chipped away at. In the 1920’s, the Plymouth Antiguarian Society was gifted a 400 lb section of the rock. What’s left of the mother rock is featured under a portico at the water’s edge. It is now a historical marker.
Plymouth & Brockton Street Railroad Trolley
The P & B Railroad Trolley was an affordable and easy way to tour the city. They offer several routes, including a hop on, hop off tour. We chose the $25 family of 4 package that was a pick up, drop off at the same location.

Plimoth Plantation is a living historical re-creation of the Pilgrim colony. Walk through the “village” to speak with and learn from the Pilgrims and Native Americans as they share what life was like in the colonial town. Costumed participates have taken on the names, histories & views of real people who lived in the Plymouth community. Visit their modestly built homes and interact with the eager participates to get a real feel for the time period.
