When I was a little girl growing up, my paternal grandmother made a congealed salad every weekend for Sunday lunch. My maternal grandfather would “spring” me from daycare and frequently and take me to the breakfast bar at Shoney’s. When I would finish breakfast, he would set a bowl of “fluff” in front of me to enjoy. While technically congealed salad and “fluff” are 2 entirely different things, they are two of my absolute favorite childhood memories!
As an adult, I realized that the fluff I had been introduced to as a kid is really just Watergate salad. Shoney’s absolutely made the best. I still make and enjoy Watergate salad to this day. Several years ago, I was searching for something Thanksgiving-themed to make for our family.
I had already purchased a couple of cans of cranberry sauce. Speaking of cranberry sauce, whole berry is the ONLY way to go. I don’t dislike the jelly kind, I just prefer the whole berry. So in a pinch, I searched the web for an additional sweet something to put on my Thanksgiving table that I already had the ingredients for. What I found was a game changer! During the months of November and December, a big bowl of Cranberry Fluff can usually be found in my fridge.
Ingredients
- 14 oz. sweetened condensed milk
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 16 oz. can of whole berry cranberry sauce
- 20 oz. can of crushed pineapple, draine
- 1/2 cup of chopped pecans
- 12 oz package thawed Cool Whip
- 1 cup mini marshmallows’
Combine lemon juice and sweetened condensed milk. Mix well.
Combine the crushed pineapple, cranberry sauce
Fold in a tub of Cool Whip. Once it is combined thoroughly, fold in mini marshmallows.
I will take a moment here and put in a shameless plug for Plan To Eat. Plan to Eat is a fabulous tool that we have been using for 5 years now. Plan to Eat is a recipe keeper, meal planner and grocery list maker all in one. It’s a simple drag and drop way to easily organize all of your family’s meals. At the time this article is being written, the annual price is $38. BUT there is a little secret and trick to the price. Every November, Plan to Eat runs a Black Friday special, where they offer a year’s subscription for $19.50. As I like to say, if planning with Plan to Eat saves me from eating out 1 time a year, it’s paid for itself. We are a family of 4 (6 when we first signed up!), we can’t eat a meal at McDonald’s for $19.50!
If you already have Plan to Eat, be sure to send me a friend request at Angelicaj99.
