Our Rig

Our Current Rig

Our current rig is a 2001 National Tradewinds LTC 7390. It’s a 39-foot diesel pusher with a 330HP Cat eng. The Nationals were pretty well-built RVs and has held up very well so far. The motorhome is a really nice size! Big enough to give you a good bit of room throughout the rig. But, not so big that it’s hard to maneuver around. We’ve been doing renovations and modifications to it since we bought it in late 2019.

So far the tow’ds we’ve pulled behind it have been a Ford Escape that was bought with the motorhome, a 2017 Ford Explorer, and a 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited.

Our Original Rig

Our current rig is made up of a 2008 Forest River Salem LE, 26TBSS Travel Trailer. We purchased it used in 2015. With three kids still at home, this triple bunkhouse was a good fit for us. It fit well within our current budget and seemed to be in very good condition. In fact, it barely looked used. There were hardly any nicks or scratches inside. Except for a few Command hooks here and there, no modifications or customizations had been done. It was like it had been just sitting in storage for the past 7 years.

The Tin Can

The trailer, as it was, served us well for the next couple of years. In mid-2017, we decided that we were serious about wanting to full-time in a 5th wheel. During a short camping trip thoug, Angelica and I decided we would start out full-timing in our existing TT, since it was still in great shape and paid for. So the process of renovating The Tin Can began. The initial renovation took us about 7 months to complete, but we are constantly makeing more upgrades and renovations to our rig.

For towing The Tin Can, we have a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 long bed crew cab. It’s a monster of a truck, but we love it! It’s the work truck version. It gives us seating for 6, because of it having a front row bench seat with fold-down armrest/console. It has vinyl seats, that are actually very comfortable, and rubber flooring. No, she’s not a fancy Z71 model, but she’s more rugged and still very comfortable. Did I mention that we LOVE it? It’s also a major upgrade from our previous Nissan NV3500, that we had been towing with.
