After our most recent Fulltime Families rally in Madison, FL, one of the families that remained arranged a field trip for us all to enjoy a working dairy goat farm in the area.
During the field trip, we got to visit with pregnant mama goats, retired “old” goats, and baby goats. Of course, our favorite was all the baby goats that we got to hold. The farm also housed tons of chickens, a small herd of angus cattle, a random duck or two, and 10 Great Pyrenees herding dogs.
One of the owners of the farm gave us the tour. She explained that the operation had far outgrown any of their expectations. It all started as a way to provide milk for her husband since he couldn’t drink cows milk. Before they knew it, they had way more milk than they could possibly consume. They decided to begin selling their goods, including goat milk, goat cheese, soaps, lotions, etc., at local farmer’s markets. They generally sell out of everything they take. Serenity Acres Farm also hosts groups for goat yoga.
Please take the time to enjoy our photo gallery of all the baby goats we got to love on.
After the tour of the farm, they invited us inside of their milking facility and the area for creating their sellable goods. I purchased several bars of their soaps, including some shaving soap for Philip, and some of their handmade lip balm and mosquito repellent.
