Today marks the closing of a chapter in our life. When we attended the Fulltime Families Under the Sea rally in March 2018, we were pushed to step outside of our comfort and challenged to take the next step toward becoming fulltime RVers. While our hearts seek the wide open road, Philip has an extremely location dependent career. The catalyst that allowed us to go fulltime and still be close to Philip’s job, has been camp hosting.

Our Time Hosting

We have thoroughly enjoyed our time camp hosting! It has met our needs to be able to go fulltime, plus so much more that we didn’t expect. Our family has made lifelong friends, in other camp host and met countless other guests. We’ve heard tons of stories from the road. It provided us with a free spot, free electricity, and free laundry for the past 8 months.

Yes, our time has included work. The work hasn’t necessarily been hard work, but the lack of being able to come and go as we please has been hard. Remember that our gypsy hearts lead us to this lifestyle in the first place. Those hearts love to be on the go… ALL the time! Sometimes we take for granted just being able to run to the grocery store or to take your sick kid to the doctor’s office without having to ask for permission.

What We’ll Miss

Our family will miss our time volunteering for Georgia State Parks. The people will be missed. The beautiful scenery will be missed. The girls will miss the amazing kayaking opportunities they have had. We will miss the sense of purpose that we’ve had while assisting guest. Philip and I will miss watching our girls grow through this opportunity. We have seen them grow in responsibility, maturity, problem solving skills & confidence during this time.

Georgia State Parks will always have a place in our parks! We have been “Friends of the Georgia Parks” for quite a few year before we even considered going fulltime. Our family members are better people because of our time volunteering at Georgia State Parks.

By the Numbers:

  • 1347 volunteer hours
  • 8 months
  • 5 assignments
  • 4 parks
  • 1 family changed forever & thankful
