Many RV parks do not necessarily have good clean water. We have witnessed parks with an extreme amount of sediments in the water. Also parks with a lot of iron or sulfur. Sediments in water can wreak havoc on your fixtures in your RV causing premature failure. Iron, sulfur and other minerals and such can cause bad taste. Luckily there are filters to handle these issues. Let’s look at some of the options we can use in our RV.

Inline Filters

These are just simple inline filters that are attached to one end of your hose. And when it becomes clogged or no longer effective you replace it with a new one. They are simple to install, take up little room during storage and are inexpensive.

Canister Filters

Canister filters are another, usually inline whole RV canister filters. They can either be a single stage one canister filter or several stages with different filter cartridges that filter out different elements. Many times, they are set up with two stages. The first stage being a sediment only filter. And the second stage being a carbon for better taste. Other cartridges are available that will filter out heavy metals and other chemicals. The nice thing about this set up is you can add more stages to cover a broader range. Including cartridges for lime and scale.

Drinking Water Filters

Dedicated drinking water filters can also be installed in your RV. The filter system is usually installed under a sink. And a drinking water faucet is mounted to your counter top. Many of these systems are Reverse Osmosis systems. These systems give you very pure water. But they put out a low volume of water and a lot of water is expelled as brine. The brine water can be run to your fresh water tank and used though.

There are also UV and standard cartridge filters that can be installed of dedicated drinking water filters. Or countertop drinking water filters like the Berkey that was mentioned in our article Best Countertop Ice Maker.

The folks at RV Water Filter Store carry a broad range of filter systems for RVs. They have everything from whole coach complete kits to individual filter pieces. Whatever your RV filter needs are, they can help. And if you purchase through or affiliate link, we get a small kickback at no cost to you.
